The Civil War in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina
3D reconstruction of the Hibben Street Battery based upon the engineering drawing below.
The above image represents how the battery might have appeared during the war. The image to the right provides plan and profile views of the fortification as it was built. Hibben Street Battery was built in the same location as a Revolutionary War fortification, Shem Creek Lunette. The Hibben Street Battery is destroyed today.
The Hibben Street Battery was located behind the Hibben House on a high bluff at the western terminus of Hibben Street in the Old Village of Mount Pleasant overlooking Charleston Harbor. The battery was constructed to serve as an inner-harbor defense for Charleston Harbor.
Hibben Street Battery was constructed for two guns and a powder magazine. It was armed with two 24-pound guns on siege carriages.
